Jumping right in I do want to say my sample size of roughly ~250 kills is pretty small from a scientific/mathematical perspective but I also have some general tips and strats coming so don't count this post out yet (trust me you want GoM)
Some Quick Facts
Grasp of Malok is the only Y2 archetype of its kind. It is the same archetype as Praedyth's Timepiece & Oversoul Edict but for level-enabled playlists like IB and ToO there is no substitution
GoM can definitely drop from the director version of the strike (Earth, lvl 18)
Except in a few places where the angle gets weird Dark Drinker's spin attack will hit Omnigul even though she floats. Also annihilates annoying adds. (Opinion: having 1 DD with 2 raze lighters is optimal)
Mechanics
Quickest way to farm this amazing gun is creating a fireteam and going to the strike manually by choosing it from the director. I am trying to keep this post factual so it is my personal experience that lvl 20, 36 & heroic strikes all have the same chance (and the heroic version is a farming nightmare) Nightfalls are Bungie confirmed better drop rates but who wants to wait?
The goal here is to rush all the way to the room just before the final fight with her. This "room" is the one right after your ghost hacks a door and when you walk in she is at the end of the hallway and Eris instructs you to kill her.
You want to immediately rush her and tether the ground near her. Not actually tether her but literally the ground (also please be running blackhole & light of the pack perks).
Now go crazy with your swords. Most times it's pretty quick and easy, she dies fast, you all let enemies kill you and rinse and repeat. However sometimes she goes all superman and just breaks tethers or teleports or all kind of ish. This is where the 2nd hunter comes in. As soon as this be happens tether the ground in front of her as tethering behind her when she plays superman can be a wasted tether entirely.
When Can I Expect One?
Well like I said my 250 some kills is not the best predictor of true drop rates. However I will say after going through many different farm teams that it seems to drop about every 50 kills. RNG is RNG please remember that. I've seen it drop on her 3rd death and on her 80th. It's RNG but appears to be roughly a 1.5-2% chance overall.
